“Behold, God is my salvation; I will
trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my
strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” Isaiah
12:2
And you will say in that day: “Give
thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds
among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted. Isaiah
12:4
I encourage you to read all 6 verses of Isaiah 12 and
make it your prayer as often as you bring it to mind. Included as part of a
powerful section of Isaiah 7-12, where Isaiah proclaims God's coming judgement
upon King Ahaz and the Southern Kingdom of Judah for his lack of trust in God
and his wickedness. The Northern Kingdom of Israel and the Syrians are coming
against Judah and looking to overthrow Ahaz. King Ahaz makes a political
alliance, by sending much of his riches to Assyria to buy their protection and
favor as they go on their expansion march through the region.
Isaiah tells King Ahaz that God will punish his failure
to trust God by the very people whose favor he thought he purchased, the
Assyrians. Though, God will bring judgement upon the Assyrians while preserving
a remnant of Judah. Interspersed in this immediate prophecy is the
forward-looking prophecy of the coming of the Messiah in chapters 7, 9, and 11.
Isaiah 12 is a Prayer of Praise for God's faithfulness
and deliverance. It calls to mind, The Songs of Moses and Miriam in
Exodus 15 following Israel's release from captivity in Egypt and the Crossing
of The Red Sea.
I commend this beautiful prayer to you to offer as a
joyous response to our own salvation through Christ. I also find it
powerful because it is both a declaration of our trust in God and a
proclamation of our mission. It encompasses the 2 tenets of “whole of
life" worship worthy of God The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!
